Los Frailes Cellar named after the vineyards was La Casa dels Frares (Cals Frares) that belonged to the religious order of the Jesuits, which following their expulsion from Spain by King Carlos III in 1767, and public auction a human ancestor acquired farm, vineyard and winery, and consisted in writing in our possession that were produced wines from local varieties such as Monastrell, Forcayat, Verdil.
Since 1771, the winery has been owned continuously the Velázquez family. True to our roots, coupled with efforts to innovate and the desire to rediscover the expressiveness of the Monastrell grape variety, have promoted an ambitious family project.
Since 1999 we promote the restructuring of planting varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Grenache, Shiraz, looking for the ideal complement to the Mediterranean character of “Monastrell” (with old vines more than 45 years) the Marselan our latest innovation, a variety unknown but future with all our experience. Also started the conversion in organic farming, with novel techniques in terms of biological pest control.
On the other hand, we have restored the old currently employed winery as cellar stabilization and construction of a new winery with the latest technology in winemaking, one cask invites to silence and maturation of our wines and a tasting room fully glazed where discover and enjoy the world of wine.
An illusion, a family passion for soil, climate and some grapes that make up a way of understanding our environment.
